Lead paint law

The Federal government as well as Massachusetts have instituted a “property transfer lead paint notification” disclosure known as “CLPPP” - CHILDHOOD LEAD POISONING PREVENTION PROGRAM.

The notification package must be given to buyers and tenants, with an option to buy homes, constructed prior to 1978 when lead paint was allowed & used. If you purchase a home, in which a child under six (6) years of age will reside, you must either have it de-leaded or brought under interim control within 90 days of taking title. After getting interim control status, owners then have up to two (2) years to fully de-lead the home. You may hire a licensed risk assessor or have a lead inspector do testing prior to purchase to determine the status. Your required compliance is voluntary if all children are six or older.
