Radon gas

Radon comes from the natural (radioactive) breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water and gets into the air you breathe. It comes out of the ground through the basement floor, being trapped; it rises thru the upper stories, exposing its occupants. Radon can be found all over the U.S. In the southern Berkshires, from our experience, levels of Radon are not usually high. Testing for it during your inspection period is easy and inexpensive. Your home inspector can supply the materials for such a test, which will then be sent to a lab for the results. If levels, are in excess of the EPA guidelines of below 4 pCi/L (Pico Curies per liter), a qualified mitigator can be contracted to install a reduction system, which work and are not too costly, essentially a venting fan.
